Service scheduling for general packet radio service classes

چکیده
While the quality of service (QoS) profiles for a number of general packet radio service (GPRS) classes has been specified [1] by ETSI, how QoS management is provided by means of traffic scheduling, traffic shaping, and connection admission control, in a GPRS network is an implementation issue that is attracting significant current research interest. This paper presents an evaluation of several traffic scheduling methods, including of FIFO, Static Priority Scheduling (SPS) and Earliest Deadline First (EDF) by simulations, with the objective of meeting the delay profiles defined for a number of GPRS classes. Traffic sources representative of GPRS applications, including email, fleet management and world wide web applications are employed. We focus on the forward link which represents the bottleneck of a typical GPRS data connection. Results show that EDF is able to meet the delay requirements at a much higher channel utilization compared to the other alternatives.

In this paper, loss probabilities and steady state probabilities of data packets for an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network are investigated under the buffer division and push-out schemes. Data packets are classified in classes k which arrive in Poisson fashion to the service facility and are served with general service rate under buffer division scheme, finite buffer space N is divided in...
متن کاملProviding Quality of Service over General Packet Radio Service: Admission Control, Radio Resource Reservation, and Scheduling
Mobile wireless networks aim to support different applications, especially those based on voice, video, and data. However, these applications differ a lot in terms of Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. We propose a combination of three different QoS mechanisms over General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network elements, in order to manage efficiently the scarce frequency spectrum. The first m...
متن کاملIntelligent Packet Scheduler for General Packet Radio Service
The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) augments GSM to provide packet switched data services to the mobile users. Packet scheduling in GPRS is dynamic and several scheduling techniques have been implemented, for example round robin; however, these generally assure only best effort quality of service. In this paper we compare prominent scheduling algorithms by simulation of web and email traffi...
متن کاملRadio Resource Management in GPRS with Quality of Service
In wireless data networks, Radio Resource Management (RRM) strategies are an important issue for supporting Quality of Service (QoS). This paper evaluates the performance of two innovative scheduling disciplines that allow the subscribers to transmit data with guaranteed QoS in a packet switched radio network based on the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). In particular, the analysed strategi...

The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) system provides packet switched data service with quality of service (QoS) over a GSM infrastructure. In order to cope with the QoS requirements, packet scheduling strategies are used. On the other hand, GPRS introduces four coding schemes with different degrees of data protection according to the radio channel conditions. Then, the selection of appropria...
